25 Jul 2007 - | Pressure on local activists in Hrodna continues. Stiapan Svidzersi, Hrodna activist for preservation of the city's historical center, has been called to the local police office. Mr. Svidzerski is currently abroad and cannot come to police. He faces a fine up to 500 USD. More severe measures may be taken against the activists upon his return to Hrodna. |
19 Jul 2007 - | An outhouse of vice administrator's palace built in 1794 in Hrodna's historical center is being demolished. The building is located at Horky St. 2A. The outhouse was constructed by a famous architect Mezer in Baroque style and was used as a stable.
"The walls of the outhouse remained from XVIIŠ c., one of them has been already demolished," S. Svidzerski informed. "Demolition continues now. The workers reacy aggressively to people with photo and video cameras."
The building of the outhouse belongs to Hrodna Orthodox Eparchy. "A new small church and household building will appear insted of the historical building," marked Mr. Svidzerski, "however, representatives of the Eparchy claimed earlier that the outhouse wouldl be preserved."
